According to the free dictionary online, incremental means “A slight, often barely perceptible augmentation”. In other words, things are moving forward but they are so small that it’s very hard to perceive them. Life can feel very stagnant at times. However, feeling like that doesn’t accurately portray reality. I came to the conclusion that when I am feeling motionless, it means incremental growth is happening. It’s comparable to the slow and unnoticeable way leaves change colors during fall. It’s like one day, I wake up and nature has dressed itself up for a final show of colorful splendor before another kind of colorless beauty settles in. It reminds me of Lamentations 3: 22 and 23 “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
We had a house retreat few weeks ago. It was good and relaxing, a great connection time as a house with its founder and his family. We are currently exploring and praying about ways for the house to be more intentional in expressing itself outwardly by connecting with the various communities around. For example we will be having a monthly community service opportunity to help with a shelter meal outreach program in the inner city.
